Privacy Policy
Effective: August 25, 2026
Yonder is operated by Rival Bear, an independent California software studio. This policy covers the Yonder app and getyonder.app.
1. Information We Collect
Location data. GPS coordinates, heading, speed, and related motion signals collected while you use Ask or an active Journey. If you enable Journey tracking, Yonder may continue receiving location updates while the app is backgrounded or the screen is locked so hands-free Guide narration can continue.
Account information. Your email address, optional name, internal user ID, and authentication details collected through Supabase when you create a Yonder account.
Beta and launch interest. If you join our interest list, we collect your email address, your consent to receive TestFlight beta and App Store launch updates, the signup source or campaign when available, consent time, and subscription status. To prevent abuse, we also keep a short-lived pseudonymous fingerprint derived from network and browser request signals; the raw address is not stored in that rate-limit record. Joining the interest list does not create a Yonder account.
Voice preferences. Your selected narrator voice and audio settings.
Usage data.Features you've viewed, narrations you've heard, and engagement signals such as listen duration and skips. This helps us improve personalization and content quality.
Purchases. Subscription status and entitlement state used to provide Yonder Pro and enforce free-tier limits.
User content. Saved Yonders, custom Moments, optional photos you choose to attach, and public share links you create.
Diagnostics. App events, errors, and limited diagnostic location tracks used to debug Journey timing and audio behavior.
2. How We Use Your Information
Feature discovery. Your location is used to find nearby points of interest from Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, GeoNames, and HMDB.org.
AI narration. Location context and nearby feature data are sent through OpenRouter to an eligible endpoint serving OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Luna model to generate and review automatic Guide stories. We instruct OpenRouter to use only endpoints it identifies as not collecting request data; this is not a strict zero-data-retention guarantee. User-initiated Ask questions use the same route, including the question, recent conversation text, location context, and nearby feature data needed to answer. Relevant submitted Moment text may also be processed through this route for automated abuse and spam checks.
Personalization. Usage signals help Yonder adapt to your interests over time, surfacing the kinds of stories you engage with most.
Service improvement. Aggregated usage data helps us improve narration quality, feature selection, and timing.
Billing and support. Purchase state is used to unlock Yonder Pro, restore purchases, troubleshoot subscription issues, and prevent abuse of free usage limits.
Beta and launch communication. If you ask us to, we use your interest-list email to send TestFlight availability, beta participation, and App Store launch messages. Each mailing must provide a way to unsubscribe.
3. Third-Party Services
Yonder uses the following third-party services. We share only what is necessary for each service to function.
- Supabase: Authentication and secure data storage. Receives account credentials and app data.
- Anthropic / Claude: An operational rollback provider for AI generation. It receives the same task-specific data described for OpenRouter only while that rollback is explicitly enabled.
- OpenRouter and GPT-5.6 Luna hosting providers: User-initiated Ask answers, automatic Guide narration, point-of-interest classification and selection, narration quality review, Journey summaries and titles, and submitted Moment safety checks. OpenRouter brokers requests to an eligible endpoint serving OpenAI's model; the infrastructure provider can vary and may include OpenAI, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Bedrock. They receive the question or task, recent conversation when needed, relevant location context, nearby feature data, narration text, and submitted Moment text needed for those functions.
- ElevenLabs: Voice synthesis. Receives narration text only; no location data is shared.
- Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, GeoNames, HMDB.org: Feature and POI data. Receives location coordinates for nearby feature lookup.
- RevenueCat: Subscription billing. Receives user ID and purchase state.
- Apple Speech Recognition: User-initiated Ask dictation. Receives microphone audio only when you tap the Ask mic.
- Apple: In-app purchases managed by Apple. Subject to Apple's own privacy terms.
4. Location Data
Location is collected when it is needed for Ask, Journey, and Guide features. During an active Journey, location may continue in the background or with the screen locked so Yonder can keep narrating hands-free.
Your location data is notsold, shared with advertisers, or used for tracking or profiling outside of Yonder's core functionality.
Trip history (your Yonders) is stored at your discretion and can be deleted at any time from within the app or by contacting support.
Diagnostic tracks, when captured for troubleshooting, are exact location samples kept separately from broad product analytics and are retention-limited.
5. Data Retention
Account data is retained while your account is active. Usage data is retained to support service improvement. Diagnostic tracks are retained for a limited troubleshooting window.
Interest-list records are retained while the beta or launch communication you selected remains relevant. When you unsubscribe, we retain the minimum suppression record needed to honor that preference and avoid mailing you again unless you later rejoin.
You may initiate account deletion from the app or request help deleting associated data by contacting us at hello@rivalbear.com.
6. Data Security
All data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Data is stored securely via Supabase with access controls that limit data access to only what is necessary for each service function to operate.
7. Children's Privacy
Yonder is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such data, we will delete it promptly.
8. Your Rights
You may access your data, request its deletion, and opt out of non-essential collection or email. Interest-list messages include an unsubscribe link; you may also contact us at hello@rivalbear.com.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or by email. Continued use of Yonder after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
